Title: Grant Writing Intern

Reports to:  Director of Development
Classification:  Unpaid Part-time Internship
Citizenship Requirements:  None

Summary:  The grant writing intern will assist with researching and soliciting possible foundation and governmental organizations for the benefit of Texas Public Radio.

Minimum Qualifications:  Excellent writing ability; major in writing, journalism or communications

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with researching foundations that are identified as potential sources of funding for Texas Public Radio

  2. Secure grant applications and guidelines from qualified prospects.

  3. Work with program staff to identify areas of need within Texas Public Radio and then match those needs with potential supporters.

  4. Write draft foundation grant applications.

  5. Edit foundation grant applications based on feedback from program and fundraising staff.

  6. Package grant proposals for mail or delivery.

 The Intern will learn how to:

  1. Identify and research potential foundation and governmental supporters.

  2. Secure grant applications and guidelines from those prospects.

  3. Work with program staff to ensure that proposals meet the needs of the non-profit.

  4. Write a grant for consideration by a foundation or by a governmental agency.

  5. Edit a grant request for clarity and understanding.

  6. Package a grant successfully.

Texas Public Radio will provide a workstation at the station for use as needed as well as support and guidance from the Director of Development.
