The Texas Public Radio Community Advisory Board (CAB) was created by the Governing Board of Texas Public Radio in response to federal law which requires public broadcasters to establish such boards. What is the mission and purpose of the Texas Public Radio Community Advisory Board? The mission of the Texas Public Radio Community Advisory Board is to represent the diversity of the community in order to provide insight, ideas, and opinions on issues of key strategic community relevance that the station should address through its programming. It offers an outside perspective on matters pertaining to Texas Public Radio’s response to the diverse cultural and educational needs and interests of the communities it serves. The purpose of the Texas Public Radio Community Advisory Board is to provide a vehicle for effective community input to the Texas Public Radio Governing Board about station programming, community service and impact on the community from the station's major policy decisions. It does this by providing input as needed on strategies for reaching, engaging and serving the public through programming and community events and providing input on efforts to reach a broader, more diverse audience. What are the expectations and duties of the Texas Public Radio Community Advisory Board? The Texas Public Radio Community Advisory Board is an advisory board. How many members are on the Community Advisory Board? The Community Advisory Board consist of no less than twelve (12) and no more than twenty-four (24) members from the community serving three-year terms How often does the Community Advisory Board meet? The Community Advisory Board has approximately three evening meetings a year. Working with Texas Public Radio management it sets its own agenda on current issues and topics affecting public broadcasting. The meetings provide an opportunity for briefings on the issues and for small group discussions. Who are the Community Advisory Board members? The Community Advisory Board members come from a cross section of the listening audiences and the greater community. They have differing backgrounds, experiences and interests. They range in age from young adults to seniors. Members are not asked to represent an organization or special interest group; they are asked to participate as individuals who bring with them unique experiences, interests and ideas that help to shape their perspectives as they serve in this advisory capacity. What is the selection process? Nominations to the Community Advisory Board are invited from community groups, educational and cultural institutions, past and present Community Advisory Board members, the Texas Public Radio Governing Board and individuals. A nominating committee drawn from members of the Community Advisory Board and the Governing Board conducts a preliminary review of all nominees. Nominees are considered by the entire Community Advisory Board and it selects nominees for consideration by the Governing Board. Nominees may be invited for a meeting with the Community Advisory Board. The Governing Board makes appointments to the Community Advisory Board from this final group of nominees.
