For World AIDS Day, San Antonio Organizations Testing And Educating Community

The San Antonio AIDS Foundation's mobile testing unit outside of Monterrey Park on the city's West Side.

At Monterrey Park on the city’s West Side, Metro Health, the San Antonio AIDS Foundation, and Centro de Vida are set up to test residents with mobile trucks, tents, and information tables. In Bexar County there are 4,312 people living with HIV as of the end of 2011 according to Metro Health.

This Saturday is World AIDS Day.

San Antonio AIDS Foundation Using Van to Provide Mobile Testing in Community

The San Antonio AIDS Foundation new mobile testing van holds two cubicles for rapid HIV testing. The artwork on the van was designed by local artist Ray "TattooedBoy“ Scarborough.

After working with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation on a national testing tour two years ago, the San Antonio AIDS Foundation received a mobile testing unit for use in Bexar County. The van has two cubicles for rapid 20-minute HIV testing.

During the 2010 tour, Jill Rips, deputy executive director of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation, said they found a few positive results.
