Association Of Hispanic Journalists Helping Get More Students Into The Field

The San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists continues to grow its scholarship fund and has, for the second year in a row, passed a benchmark in providing funding to college students.

Each year the San Antonio chapter strives to bring more deserving students into the profession. Communications Officer Javier Flores said that last year the organization was able to award $25,000 for the first time in its history.

People Replace Cars On Broadway For Siclovia This Sunday

San Antonio's Síclovía is back in action on Sunday and invites people to "come play in the street." On Sunday, Broadway Street will be closed to cars and trucks between Lion's Field and Alamo Plaza.

The idea for the event originates 30 years ago in Bogota, Colombia, a city growing in fame for its efforts to cut down on pollution and get residents more active.

"You can skate, walk, run, ride, [it] doesn't make any difference. Just come out and enjoy yourself," said Geoffrey Crabtree, the acting chairman of the YMCA board.

TxDOT Looking At High Speed Rail For South Texas To Oklahoma City

High speed rail is one option being evaluated for a Texas-to-Oklahoma line.

A Texas Department of Transportation study shows that portions of IH-35 in Bexar County rank 35th out of 100 roads in the state that are the most congested. A portion of IH-35 in Dallas ranks 9th most congested.

Combine that type of congestion with the number of people steadily moving to Texas, and a real transportation nightmare could be in store.

San Antonio A "Welcoming" Airport For Returning War Fighters

On the day after Easter, Petty Officer Kevin Bruehler arrived at the San Antonio Airport at 11:15 a.m. from Afghanistan, and was greeted by American flags, banners, and the waiting arms of about 50 people, including 25 of his shipmates.

"I did expect something, but this is, this is incredible and inspiring. I appreciate it very much. It’s good, it’s good to know that you’re appreciated. I mean, you always know what you do is appreciated, but to see it shown so visibly, it’s just amazing. Just amazing," Bruehler said.
