Rebecca Viagran Unseats Ozuna With Ease In District 3

San Antonio's South Side has a new councilwoman to represent them at City Hall. Rebecca Viagran clinched 51 percent of the vote, surging far above Leticia Ozuna’s 38 percent.

Ozuna, although not truly an incumbent because she was appointed to the seat a year and a half ago to fill Jennifer Ramos’ unexpired term, was running her first race and expected to win the seat.

She cited experience and her work on technology issues for the city as reasons she should come back for a full term. Mayor Julián Castro also endorsed her.

Disagreements On Key Issues In Three-Candidate District 3 Race

Dist. 3 Councilwoman Leticia Ozuna six months after her appointment to the San Antonio City Council works at her field office at Brooks City Base.

Voters will head to the polls on  Saturday, May 11, and the race for the District 3 seat is getting tense. The seat's current occupant, Leticia Ozuna, did not win the seat by election. She was appointed in January 2012 to fulfill Jennifer Ramos' term.

Ramos left the city council to focus on a campaign for Bexar County Commissioner Precinct 1 a race that she ultimately lost.

20 Years Later, Mission Trail Project Nears Completion

The plan to connect San Antonio’s Missions from the Alamo to Mission Espada has been ongoing since the mid-1990’s. This portion of the project--called package 4 and 5--will repair streets  and add pedestrian and bike routes along Mission Road to Roosevelt Avenue.
