Unique Program Helps Students With Neurological Differences

Jewelry for sale at the Monarch School's annual holiday sale.

A group of students dealing with autism, learning disabilities, brain injuries, and other challenges are learning how to make their way in the business world.

Seventeen-year-old Kylie likes to make and sell jewelry. She's one of the students helping with the Monarch School's annual holiday sale.

The room is filled with color. There are beaded earrings and bracelets, big pots of poinsettias, along with carefully-wrapped gift baskets filled with treats. 

"You can have all kinds of themes. You have bath and body; you can have Christmas themes."

City Council To Vote On Pre-K 4 SA Board Nominees Next Week

Projet MALES Aims To Get More Latino Men To Higher Education

To get more men into the college classroom, Palo Alto and San Antonio College - along with 8 other Texas schools - have received a portion of a $300,000 grant for a program called Project MALES.

Headed by the University of Texas, its goal is to get more Latino men to attend college. Palo Alto and San Antonio College are the only two San Antonio schools to get a portion of the funds.

Workforce Center Of Excellence Taking Modern Approach To Technical Training

Steve Hoenes from Lincoln Electric supervises a student welding on the company's virtual welding machine

In a classroom inside the new Workforce Center of Excellence on the city's Southwest Side the students are using virtual techniques to learn more efficiently.

Lincoln Electric’s Steve Hoenes guides the students through prompts on the screen and makes sure the helmet is fitted correctly. Before long, they are welding virtually and a score is produced seconds after a student finishes.
