Artistic expression, public service, and grassroots initiatives are the pulse of the community — they circulate the vitality that feeds into the distinctive character of San Antonio and the Hill Country. Texas Public Radio values community initiatives and is committed to raising awareness of the abundance of nonprofit organizations in the area.
Texas Public Radio Community Partners is a collective of local nonprofit organizations that have demonstrated their support for public radio. This community initiative is designed to create connections between our listeners and the nonprofit community at large in an effort to strengthen the growth of local public service providers, artistic organizations, and awareness-raising groups.
Why partner with Texas Public Radio?
The quality that distinguishes public radio listeners from other media audiences enables nonprofits to raise more focused and effective awareness of their mission and events. Our audience possesses a strong appreciation for creativity and curiosity, public service and community involvement. They are savvy business leaders, enthusiastic volunteers, generous philanthropists and connoisseurs of arts and culture. In short, they are an audience that is amenable to supporting the mission of local nonprofit organizations.
By establishing a relationship with Texas Public Radio through a Community Partnership, member organizations receive:
-
Weekly recognition, for one year, of their organization name on the TPR station of their choice.
-
Frequent on-air acknowledgement of their organization name during our next fund-raising campaign.

Our House - San Antonio
More than fifty years ago, long before community mental health treatment was even conceived of, a group of people who had been discharged from Rockland State Hostpital in New York began meeting together on the street corners of Manhattan and the local library. They came to discover that the support they were offering each other was essential to thier well-being and thier recovery from mental illness.
In 1948, these pioneers were able to obtain a grant to purchase a building known as Fountain House. This community created by members helped them to develop and maintain their self-respect and identities, as well as create meaningful relationships. Today, there are clubhouses all over the world.
Our House is a part of the international clubhouse movement. We are a professional self-help program, operated by men and women recovering from mental illness, in collaboration with with a professional and caring staff. The emphasis at Our House is on relationships - member to member, and member to staff. Members engage with each other to regain thier productivity and self-confidence, resume thier lives, and re-enter society. Members also take part in promoting thier rights, and in erasing the stigma that often separates them from thier neighbors.
Since its founding in 2003, Our House has been providing hope and recovery for people living with mental illness. Our innovative 'clubhouse' model is today the basis for more than 400 similar programs in 32 countries around the world, assistaing over 50,000 men and women.
