Three minutes of truth without accusation, patriotism without political spin, and faith beyond religious dogma.  A place in the media where Americans convene to share thoughtful, respectful, and honest statements of their life-guiding philosophies.  This I Believe is dedicated to providing that place, and now Texas Public Radio is partnering with This I Believe to create a space on the air for the voices of South Texas, This I Believe/Esto lo creo.  Selected essays air bi-weekly during Friday broadcasts of All Things Considered on KSTX 89.1 FM and KTXI 90.1 FM.

July 13, 2007 · Literature defines us as a society and writing can help a person understand who they are is what Nan Cuba believes.  A writer, educator and founder of the literary organization Gemini Ink here in San Antonio, Cuba believes writing one's belief on paper is an exercise requiring careful analytic thought.  An English professor at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Nan Cuba challenges her students by having them write their beliefs.

June 29, 2007 · Sometimes what you can't do is just as important as what you can.  At least that's according to Shannon Carpenter.  Shannon is a San Antonio resident, and and a pediatric hematologist/oncologist with the University of Texas Health Science Center.

June 15, 2007 · Jose Campos is a sixteen-year-old who attends Antonian College Preparatory High School in San Antonio.  His essay comes from the value he places on the relationship with his friends and family.  An important element of those relationships is honesty.

“There's Always Another Way” by Loretta Van Coppenolle

June 1, 2007 · Loretta Van Coppenolle is a retired English and ESL teacher living in San Antonio.  A turning point in life for her came in 1978.  According to Loretta, the construction of the South Texas Nuclear Project inspired her to take action to guard against threats to the environment.  It's this underlying activism that guides her essay.

May 18, 2007 · Winter Prosapio lives in the Canyon Lake area near New Braunfels.  She's a freelance writer, but more importantly, she's a wife and a mother of two girls.  As a mother of two daughters, she can foresee passing on some valuable insight about life and its trials and tribulations to them much as her grandmother passed along words of wisdom to her.  It's those "words to live by" which inspired Winter to write her essay.

May 4, 2007 · Joseph Sanchez is a student at Antonian College Preparatory High School in San Antonio.  His This I Believe essay reflects his faith in forgiveness, a characteristic he says that is second nature to him.  He credits his parents and God for being the role models showing him the power of mercy and forgiveness.  The way he can have mercy and forgive, he says, is puzzling to his friends.
