The Splendid Table is a weekly exploration of food and cooking, covering the entire subject of food as it touches our lives and feeds our souls. More than a cooking program, The Splendid Table is about meals as a gathering place, classic dishes and new discoveries, travel and other cultures, feeding a family on the run, and lots more. The series uses a discussion of food — both haute and humble — as a port of entry to an exploration of American traditions, culinary and otherwise.
Guest experts, authors, and chefs add to the listener experience. The ongoing explorations of Jane and Michael Stern, authors of Gourmet Magazine's "Two for the Road" column, chronicle their relentless quest for the unique dining experiences that take them around the world and off the beaten path. And each week, listeners are invited to call Lynne with their questions. Lynne is prominent in the food community, and her list of contributors to The Splendid Table is a veritable who's who of well known food specialists. Guests and commentators include Julia Child, Graham Kerr, Patricia Wells, Jessica Harris (A Kwanzaa Keepsake), Mary Ewing-Mulligan (the only woman Master of Wine and co-author of Wine for Dummies), among many others. Guests share a diversity of insight and remembrances. Legendary filmmaker Ismail Merchant (Room With a View) shared his passion for curry while cooking for his cast and crew members. Polar explorer Ann Bancroft revealed the vital role food plays in Artic survival. A coffee buyer explained the issues behind free trade coffee.
