On this episode of "Texas Matters," we discuss the Dallas Fort-Worth Regional Transportation Council's plan to study bringing hyperloop to the DFW area.
Steven Duong joins us to discuss the issue. He is the Hyperloop Texas project lead for AECOM, a Fortune 500 engineering and construction firm.
A drive from Dallas to Laredo is 430 miles, and if Interstate-35 doesn’t hang-up with traffic congestion, it can be driven in under seven hours. But in a hyperloop pod, that trip would take less than an hour. And going to San Antonio from Austin would required about 10 minutes of time in the tube.
Hyperloop is a developing technology that uses mag-lev pods in near vacuum tubes traveling at super high speeds. So far, it's an experimental technology that looks promising but it has its doubters.
