San Antonio Youth Orchestra Checks Into 'Hotel California'

Youth Orchestras of San Antonio's classic albums live program continues Monday. Next in its sights: the Eagles' “Hotel California.”

"We take a classic rock album and have a dozen local bands join a full symphony orchestra onstage at the Tobin Center,” YOSA's music director Troy Peters said. “So you get re-imaginings of these songs, but you also get the sort of epic, sweeping grandeur of a full symphony orchestra tying it all together. It's a lot of fun.”

IF YOU GO What: YOSA’s Hotel California Where: Tobin Center for the Performing Arts When: 8 p.m. Monday Cost:  $25-$55

Not only will the show feature songs from the album, including “Life In The Fast Lane,” and “New Kid In Town, but Peters said the band’s other works will also be played by performers of all musical backgrounds.

"Part of what's fun about putting this together is to try to have a variety of styles, so we've got indy rockers, we've got country singers, we've got a jazz combo, we've got a cumbia groove band — all of these different styles that will come in and shine a light on what these songs were about," Peters said.

Local bands who will play with YOSA:

  • Vanessa Lynn Bird
  • Jake Castillo Trio
  • Rick Cavender Band
  • Down for the Count
  • Elnuh
  • Fein Tuned
  • Michael J. & The Foxes
  • Michelle Garibay-Carey
  • Orsinger
  • The Velvet Hues
  • Chris Villanueva Quartet
  • Volcán
