SA2020: Civic Engagement Is Necessary To Turn San Antonio's Vision Into Reality

Feb 28, 2018

Local nonprofit SA2020 recently released its 2017 impact report, tracking the city's progress in various cause areas to improve conditions within San Antonio communities.

Targeting eleven cause areas, the report uses local data to measure whether goals have been met or are on track to be met by 2020. Of the 61 primary indicators, 70 percent are seeing progress, according to the report.

The organization and their data partners CI:Now also look at the status of guidelines that are not seeing progress or may be getting worse.

In the final episode of "The Source" SA2020 impact report series, we look at civic engagement. For this cause area, the report tracks progress toward increasing voter turnout, volunteerism, philanthropic giving and the diversity of San Antonio's elected officials.

The best way to have the city you want to live in and reflects your values is to engage by voting, giving, volunteering and leading. According to SA2020, civic engagement has the potential to impact every other cause area.

San Antonio has seen incremental improvement in municipal voter turnout, but are we on track to reach the 2020 goal?

Does the composition of city boards and elected officials reflect the diversity of our population?

How can giving back help build social connections and strengthen the fabric of our community?
