New Gallery Will Feature Linda Pace's Private Collection

Linda Pace Foundation

A new contemporary art gallery will be opening next month, but it’s unlike most others in San Antonio.

“It will open on April 18 to the public," said Linda Pace Foundation Executive Director Maura Reilly, who detailed the new venue.

“It is a 2,000 sq. ft. space that previously functioned as the Linda Pace Foundation offices, and prior to that it functioned as Linda Pace’s studio," Reilly said.

Pace died in 2007, and had been an active artist herself. She was also an avid art collector, and the new gallery will over time feature her collection.

“We will be installing a collection called Pace Gems, which is really the gems of the collection, as the first exhibition,” Reilly said.

The gallery is called Space, and the foundation will hold two exhibitions a year a there.

“The second one we’re devoting to a San Antonio art star named Alejandro Diaz, who now lives in New York, but he was an Artpace resident, and one of Linda Pace’s favorite artists,” said Reilly.

As to where Space is, Reilly puts it this way.

“Space is located on the northeast corner of Chris Park, so you need to access space by walking through Chris Park,” she said.

Chris Park is in Southtown at 111 Camp Street. Space will open with a big party, and Reilly said everyone is invited. The big celebration is Friday, April 18, but she said there’s more on Saturday.

“On Saturday we have an artist’s panel and we are inviting Andrea Bowers, Daniel Joseph Martinez and Donald Moffet. They are three really prestigious artists that will come and speak to us that afternoon,” Reilly said.
