Fort Hood Soldier Dies At BAMC

The Department of Defense has released the name of a Fort Hood soldier who died in San Antonio last week.

The Army says Private First Class Donnell Antwain Hamilton, Jr., died Thursday, July 24, at Brooke Army Medical Center, from an illness that was diagnosed in Afghanistan.

Hamilton, who the Army says was from Kenosha, Wisconsin, had served on active duty as an M-1 armor crewman since October, 2012. He had been assigned to Fort Hood since April of 2013 and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in July of 2013.

The Army says Hamilton’s illness was sustained in Ghazni province, Afghanistan. The type or cause of the illness was not released, but officials say the 20-year-old private had been at BAMC since January.

Hamilton had received several decorations and awards, including the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
