TCEQ Confident It Will Find Source Of Museum Reach Oil Spill

Several agencies are now investigating an oil spill that flowed into the San Antonio River at 10th Street last weekend.

So much rain came down over the weekend and Monday that it is difficult for the agencies to measure the amount of oil that washed down Avenue B to 10th Street, over the berms, through the grass, and into the river.

Tests by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality have determined that the spill was petroleum oil.

Helotes-San Antonio Land Dispute Coming To A Resolution

City of Helotes sits on the northwest side of San Antonio

The cities of Helotes and San Antonio may be close to a resolution on a land deal that would allow the landlocked smaller town to gain additional territory.

A negotiated deal is on the San Antonio City Council agenda next week.

For years, Helotes and its city leaders have been in discussions with San Antonio to acquire 6.7 square miles as part of that town’s Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ). San Antonio offered a smaller piece, but Helotes Mayor Tom Schoolcraft rejected the offer.

A local physician is making history with an advanced technology to treat problems with vocal cords, and people are coming to San Antonio from around the country for the procedure.

Dr. Blake Simpson at UT Medicine San Antonio, the clinical practice of the School of Medicine at the Health Science Center, specializes in voice disorders and for the last six years has used a procedure to remove polyps and other growths on the vocal cords using a laser fiber.

Committee Discusses Surveillance Bill And Potential Effect On Boston Bombing

A bill addressing privacy issues would require police and other state agencies to develop signage for any area of the state under the watch of a surveillance camera.  

The House Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety heard House Bill 3165, which not only requires that those using surveillance cameras put up a notice, it also requires those agencies have a website where the public can view a live stream of what is being filmed.
