This week local youth can audition for the 2013-14 season of the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio. Musicians who have been playing their instrument at least one year, and are ages 8 to 20 years old are eligible.

Troy Peters is the music director and conductor of the YOSA Philharmonic. He says it is a great experience, and fun. "This year guests include Christopher O'Riley, host of From The Top, plus Tracy Silverman, electric violinist, and our first performance in Lila Cockrell Theater."

Planned Parenthood is headed back to court later this month over a 2011 law that excludes the group from being listed and funded by the state-run Texas Women’s Health Program.

In 2011 lawmakers at the state capitol along with Gov. Rick Perry set in place the laws that created the state-run Texas Women’s Health Program, which excluded groups like Planned Parenthood from being listed as a provider of women’s health because of their connection to abortion. 

One of San Antonio’s River ducks is the subject of a city investigation this week, and a $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.

The City's Animal Care Services has several videotapes from Riverwalk restaurants, and is searching for those responsible for the death of George the Duck.

Considering ducks can live into their 20s, George was young. The duck had lived for only two years, all of it on the San Antonio River, when he was abducted last week and allegedly beaten to death by two men somewhere along the Riverwalk.

Try as they might, voters and elections officials aren’t always on the same page when it comes to information needed to vote.

That played out in real life Monday at the start of early voting when District 5 David Medina’s campaign said a voter who went to the Las Palmas Library to cast a vote couldn’t do so, which is because she’s not a resident of District 5.

The first report card for San Antonio's goal-setting and transformation program, known as SA2020, has been released and city leaders will be pleased that many areas are making progress, but there is still work to be done.

The report ranked progress on each line item with one of five marks:

Both parties in the school finance battle have been called back to court to review what has happened in the legislative session, which could lead to an official decision.

Travis County District Judge John Dietz made an initial ruling that  the way Texas funds public schools was unconstitutional, but did not make that ruling official, instead waiting to see what happened during the legislative session.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate among veterans is much higher than that of their civilian counterparts. The rate fell below 10 percent last year and hovers in the 9 percent range, more than 2 points higher than the national average.
