Air Force Announces Results Of Investigation Into Lackland MTI Sexual Assault Cases

Gen. Edward Rice leads the Air Education and Training Command at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph and it is now in his hands to fix the problems at the base.

On Wednesday, Air Force investigators announced the findings of their probe into cases of sexual assault by military training instructors at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.

Since January 1, 2012, dozens of cases have been uncovered; five instructors have been convicted, one was punished for military violations, and General Edward Rice, Commander of the Air Education Training Command, said dozens of other charges are being considered.

First Two Model Education Centers Being Considered For Pre-K 4 SA Program

City leaders are moving quickly on the plan proposed by Mayor Julián Castro that will provide full day pre-K to thousands of the city’s four year olds.

Just one week after the election, the first two model education centers for Pre-K 4 SA have been identified for consideration.

It's the texting while driving law that was passed, but then vetoed by Governor Rick Perry last session. If At First You Don't Secede - Keep Petitioning The Federal Government

It may seem like a joke or political sour grapes, but a petition calling for Texas to secede from the union has gathered enough signatures for the White House to review and respond. 

The petition calls for the federal government to allow Texas to peacefully secede and create a new government. It was posted on Friday on the White House website on a page called “We the People.” By Monday there were over 25,000 signers – that’s the trigger for the White House to review and respond to the demand.

Blankets A Source Of Warmth For Grieving Family And Those In Need

It’s been nearly three years since Sandi and Owen Carlson lost their daughter, Nicci, in a tragedy that can only be described as unthinkable; their daughter, who was in her twenties, suffered carbon monoxide poisoning in her Austin apartment.

Nicci always wanted to do good deeds for others, and especially when the typical blistering weather turned cold. Before her death, she talked about a blanket drive that would “cover the cold.” Since her passing, her parents have collected blankets for distribution throughout the state in honor of their late daughter’s memory.

Group Calls For Boycott Of 85 mph State Highway 130 Toll

After a toll-free trial run, State Highway 130 has begun charging motorists to use the Seguin-to-Austin 85 mile-per-hour highway. Texas Uniting for Reform and Freedom (TURF) is urging drivers to boycott the fastest highway in the United States.

With the $13 one-way toll now in effect on SH 130, going to Austin from Seguin and back could cost you almost half a tank of gas.

Economic Study Finds Joint Base San Antonio Accounts For $27.7 Billion

The Deputy Commander for the Joint Base San Antonio network of installations said the city and military are connected in ways that cannot be counted. A recently released study showed the military had an economic impact of $27.7 billion in 2011.

Leaders say it’s only the statistical side of the equation, and when examining the social side of the issue, Dr. Steve Nivin of the SABÉR Research Institute, who studied the fiscal impact, said the overall impact seems immeasurable.

Center City, a city department with the goal of developing and revitalizing neighborhoods, businesses and cultural resources in the Inner City Reinvestment Zone, is taking a hard look at West Commerce Street.

Director Lori Houston said it’s an area that was once full of life, but now lacks shops, restaurants and other businesses to cater to a myriad of people.
