I couldn’t have timed better the decision to replay my all time favorite Masterpiece Theatre Classic, "The Forsyte Saga," than the week the Metropolitan would broadcast its "Carmen." I had never really considered the fact that the two works and their heroine’s were so close; more sisters than cousins.

The similarities are striking

San Antonio's vocal chamber group the Copperleaf Quintet, has an afternoon of music for Lent planned this weekend. On the program are works by Francisco Guerrero and Tomas Luis de Victoria.

"His [de Victoria's] lines are just so exquisite, and when they are so exposed by just having one person on a part singing them, it's just a wonderful thing to hear!" said Ruth Moreland, the director and soprano for the group.

Ground-breaking avant-garde composer and musician Morton Subotnick has been called the father of electronic music and is a visionary who predicted the age of non-linear interactive media.

Subotnick is in San Antonio for a series of concerts and workshops and he continues to educate and enlighten audiences around the world with non-traditional structures of music.

One of San Antonio’s largest school districts has signed a memorandum of understanding with the city on the Pre-K 4 SA program.  

The San Antonio Independent School district’s board of trustees unanimously approved the partnership with the city last night. SAISD Spokeswoman Leslie Price said the agreement will be the framework between the district, city, and Texas Education Agency:

With ten days until the sequestration that prompts severe cuts to the nation’s defense budget, some lawmakers in congress are speaking against the cuts that no side wants but no one can agree on how to fix. 

Congressman Lamar Smith of San Antonio wants individual agencies to decide on what is necessary and was also critical of the recently leaked White House plan on immigration.

(Update: 2/22/2013) Military Judge Don Eller ruled the government’s 77-page list of cell phone data violates the instructor’s Constitutional rights, saying investigators extracted the information without a search warrant.

He added that at some point during the investigation, somebody at Joint Base San Antonio should have had a light bulb go on that told them to find a magistrate and file affidavits to get a search warrant.
