San Antonio Public Library Website Improves Services For Readers

Patrons of the San Antonio Library can now do their “virtual shopping” for books and other materials to check out more efficiently.

The activation of  new website modules have created a more retail-like online experience for the library, taking the website from its colder, more data-driven appearance to make it feel more like you’re really shopping.

Court Case Involving Student From Northside ISD May Allow Tracked Students To Opt-out

Students must keep ID's assigned to them visible at all times while on campus. The RFID tracking chip does not work outside of the school's boundaries.

 Update (Nov. 28, 2012): Court hearing has been moved to Federal Court - date to be determined.

A dispute between the Northside Independent School District and a John Jay High School student who refused to wear a tracking ID could be settled in court on Wednesday.

Video: Grease Clogs Inside San Antonio's Sewers

SAWS customers will likely see a 9.9 percent net rate increase on their water bills in the new year, thanks in large part to an increase in sewer overflows. The water utility is asking consumers to join them for upcoming community meetings to learn more about how to reduce costs.

San Antonio Water System has 5,000 miles of sewer pipe and Spokeswoman Anne Hayden said sewer spills have become so common that the utility must do more repair and clean-up than they have had to do in the past.

Part of the problem is consumer habits.

Study Shows Manufacturing Made $22.5 Billion Impact In 2011

The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce study shows that manufacturing grew from a $7 billion industry in 1991 to $22.5 billion in 2011.

“That is right up there with the biggest industries that we have in San Antonio,” said Chamber President and CEO Richard Perez. "Salaries have grown, so this is a place for young people to really find excellent jobs that will fulfill the needs of their families and themselves as being citizens of this community."

If you would like a divorce, but want to avoid the mess, a few new simple forms could be the walking papers you’ve been looking for. The Texas Supreme Court is trying to make it easier by approving divorce forms that don’t need a lawyer.

The new forms can only be used when the divorce is uncontested and the couple doesn't have child custody issues to settle or property to divide.
