San Antonio’s solar power industry is collectively fighting back against a plan by CPS Energy to lower a credit given to solar energy users.

Solar interests are calling for CPS Energy to backtrack on its decision to introduce SunCredit, a program that would reduce an existing dollar-for-dollar credit on generating solar energy.

A bill that helps  to train teachers and school administrators to take action during a school shooting is working its way through the legislature.  

Following several changes, SB 17, a bill authored by Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, passed the Senate, but initially fellow lawmakers were concerned with the cost, which was originally listed at $9 million.

After hearing the Democratic plan to accept Medicaid expansion dollars, a House appropriations subcommittee heard the leading Republican plan that calls for not taking the money, and instead asks the federal government for a block grant.

At times house members were shouting over each other as they debated HB 63, a bill that would outlaw the practice of texting while driving.

Following the passage of House Bill 5 out of the Senate Committee on Education, Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, the chairman of the committee, chided the businesses and media outlets who have alleged that lowering the number of state-mandated end-of-course exams would dumb-down public school curriculum.

Patrick said nothing could be further from the truth.

Congressman Lloyd Doggett testified Tuesday before a committee on Capital Hill to expand the boundary of the San Antonio Missions National Park.

Doggett expressed his desire to expand the boundary of the San Antonio Missions National Park by 137 acres to the Committee on Natural Resources.

The area includes Missions San Jose, San Juan and Espada.
