Each week on World Music (Saturday nights from 8-10 on KSTX 89.1 FM), I take a look at festivals happening around the world along with the music of the cultures they represent. This week, we’ll catch the Big Fish in Nigeria, and look stateside for a festival that has kept one man on ice for over 20 years.

Known for his voice of reason and scrutiny of topics that come across the dais on city council days, District 8 Councilman Reed Williams will not be seeking his third term. This has thrown the door wide open to a list of people ready to fill the seat.

Rolando Briones, an engineer, Ron Nirenberg, associate general manager of Trinity’s jazz station KRTU, and Michael Kueber, a retired attorney, are all ready to be the next city councilman.

The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio has formally partnered the with Baylor College of Medicine and the Texas Children’s Hospital.

"We now have world class partners who are recognized for the excellence of care they give," said CHRISTUS Health Regional CEO Pat Carrier.

The Texas Children’s Hospital will provide clinical expertise, and Baylor will employ, recruit and monitor the physicians.

I remember reading a legendary performer once say that no two performances are alike. When I starting studying the piano I recorded some of my practice sessions to hear how I was playing without the distraction of making the music.

The great musician was right, not only were all my repetitions different, I couldn't make my performances sound the same if I tried.

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Station apprehended a convicted sex offender Tuesday morning.

Agents patrolling a local ranch near the Buena Vista area encountered 46-year old Jose Luis Dones-Berreles  - an undocumented immigrant from Mexico.

During processing, agents discovered that Dones-Berreles had been previously deported from the United States and was a registered sex offender.

A criminal records check revealed that Dones-Berreles has a 2009 conviction out of Harris County for indecency with a child and served two years on that charge.

Richard Wagner’s "Parsifal," his final opera, was created in parallel with his greatest creations including "The Ring" and "Tristan." It took him just over 30 years and several revisions before it was finally presented in 1882.

It is viewed as his most refined and elaborate work and it at times leaves people feeling that it is too profound to even applaud. In a comic twist, this bothered the composer; when Wagner would applaud a certain scene he would be hushed by members of the audience.
