There are so many genres of opera. There are the exquisite chamber operas that are close to plays like Strauss’ "Capriccio" of Gluck’s chamber operas. There are the operas of morality or ideology like Beethoven’s "Fidelio" or Mozart’s "Idomeneo." Some works highlight verismos raw emotions and atonal expressionism, decadent excesses like Berg’s "Lulu" or the opera of scandal, like "Salome" and the late romantic opera as epic poetry, "The Ring." The list goes on and on.

The state attorney general’s office has announced a settlement in a 5-year, 33-state fraud investigation of the Pfizer drug company. The pharmaceutical company will pay almost $43 million to the 33 states for its unlawful marketing of two antibiotic drugs and claiming that its brand name drug was superior to a generic equivalent.

Texas will receive $3.9 million in the settlement.

The San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Marathon will become a "Jingle Bell Rock" running event – the mega footrace is moving to December.

The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon has been running the streets of San Antonio for the last five years, and four of those years have been considered too hot and humid for runners stomping out the 26.2 miles.

The Vía Metropolitan Transit Board voted to increase regular fares on Tuesday night, but it doesn’t mean customers will immediately see increased costs.

A local governmental approval committee consisting of Bexar County Commissioners, members of the San Antonio City Council and members of the suburban council of mayors will still need to give the green light before fares go into effect on Feb. 1.

The city is starting a three-year project along Woodlawn Lake Park to address flooding and create safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Woodlawn and Jefferson Neighborhoods are especially prone to flooding, and the potential for a repeat of flood events like 1998 and 2002 have residents like Henrietta Lagrange concerned.

"I live right in front, so I have mega-pictures," Lagrange said in reference to previous flooding. "I’m there, sometimes, sleepless nights trying to see how high the water is going to get."
