San Antonio’s bike share program is expanding into the South Side with several new B-cycle kiosks around the Missions.

Cyclists rode to Mission San Jose to illustrate the new availability of B-cycle just south of downtown; six new stations have been added at some of San Antonio’s Mission’s along the Mission Reach.

Tonight, the U.S. Poet Laureate is the featured speaker at UTSA’s Creative Writing Series; Natasha Trethewey is expected to read from her Pulitzer Prize-winning poetry collection.

Trethewey was serving as the poet laureate for the State of Mississippi when she was selected as the 19th poet laureate of the United States in June. Her first poems, titled, “Domestic Work,” won the inaugural 1995 Cave Canem poetry prize. Her third collection, "Native Guard,” was awarded the 2007 Pulitzer Prize.

City staff members are busy putting together the program that will offer full day pre-kindergarten to thousands of four year olds next year.

The building selections are underway that will serve as the model education centers, the finances are being worked out, and perhaps the most important task is assembling the board that will oversee the program.

At Thursday’s city council meeting, Mayor Julián Castro said San Antonio is doing something it has never done before.
