More military students and veterans are enrolling at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Texas Public Radio’s Eileen Pace reports.

August 18, 2010 · UTSA has been named a ‘military-friendly school’ by G.I. Jobs Magazine. The listing ranks UTSA in the top fifteen percent of all universities, colleges and trade schools in the country when it comes to embracing veterans as students.

The number of veteran students enrolled at UTSA has been going up — More than thirteen hundred veterans were enrolled in the spring, making UTSA’s military student populations one of the largest in the state.

UTSA actively recruits military students and offers both an Air Force and Army ROTC unit on campus. In fact, the ROTC Air Force Detachment 842 was named the Best Large Detachment in the Nation in 2008-2009.

UTSA also offers a veteran counselor, a Veteran Student Organization, which advocates for the unique needs of military students, and a Veteran Task Force. The 2011 Guide to Military Friendly Schools, which now includes UTSA, makes it easier for students to find special discounts, services and programs.
