State-of-the-art, interactive computer kiosks are being installed to help patients at Brooke Army Medical Center move through the system more quickly. TPR’s Eileen Pace reports, it’s another first for BAMC.
August 4, 2010 · Major Jeff Blackwell, chief of Health Care Operations at BAMC, says they’ve had some interactive computers for patients in the past that were mostly for feedback. But the new kiosks are the first of their kind used by the Army anywhere and will offer patients a rapid entry into the appointment system.
“If a patient is waiting in the emergency room, they can go up to the kiosk and see what type of follow-up appointment they can book right there in the emergency room before they’re even seen,” Blackwell said.
The system also provides a live map where patients can search for the location of the clinics where their appointments are scheduled. Thirty kiosks will be installed at BAMC and its outlying clinics at Camp Bullis and Fort Sam Houston.
