Officials at San Antonio’s municipal airport got some financial help from the federal government on Monday. They plan to use the money to expand the facility. More from TPR’s Terry Gildea.
August 2, 2010 · Stinson Airport on San Antonio’s south side serves smaller commercial and private aviators, but it wants to bring in more planes. Now with the help of a $1 million grant approved by Congress, officials hope to make improvements that could attract more tenants to the grounds. Tim O’Krongley is the Assistant Aviation Director at Stinson Airport.
“There’s an area of about 25 acres just to the north of Stinson Airport. It’s adjacent to our property. We will be able to bring taxi ways into that property and tenants and future tenants will be able to build hangers. And, really it’s an economic generator for the airport and the south side. The more tenants we can get on the airport, the better it is for our community as a whole,” said Tim O’Krongley.
Democratic San Antonio Congressman Ciro Rodriguez sits on the House Appropriations Committee and was on hand at Stinson Monday morning to deliver the good news. Stinson often serves as a general aviation reliever facility for San Antonio International Airport.
