Sketches Released in East Texas Church Fires

Investigators have released sketches of three persons of interest sought in a string of Texas church fires. Texas Public Radio’s David Martin Davies has the story.

February 12, 2010 · The drawings of three men were released by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The images released Friday show one man with short hair and a flame-like tattoo on his neck, another short-haired man with a cross on his left forearm, and a third man with longer hair.

“These are three subjects that we are interested in identifying, locating and interviewing. Through our tip line and interviews we have placed these suspects in and around the areas of some of the fires. And we just want to talk to them and see what they may know,” said Tom Crowley, special agent for the ATF.

A total of nine churches in the East Texas area have been deliberately set ablaze since the start of the year.A special task force has been set up to put an end to the wave of arson.

Crowley says the help from the public is needed to crack the case.

“Tips from the public are the utmost importance, because somebody out there knows something. One lone individual isn’t doing this by himself and keeping quiet about it,” he said.

There is a $25 thousand reward offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction for the fire bugs. The hotline for tips is 1-888-ATF-FIRE.
