As much of the nation is dealing with double digit unemployment, San Antonio is celebrating the announcement of another job generator moving to the city. Texas Public Radio’s David Martin Davies has the story.

February 9, 2010 ·The good hands of the Allstate Insurance Company are being welcomed to San Antonio.

On Tuesday the company announced it will open an $11.6million call center in northwest San ANtonio.

“They looked at dozens of cities and ultimately focused on Phoenix, Albuquerque and San Antonio. When you look at the location factors necessary to have a major back office, sales, IT facility like this San Antonio tends to rise to the top,” said Mario Hernandez, president of the San Antonio Economic Foundation.

Hernandez said the 600 jobs coming to the city will have a positive ripple effect on the local economy.

“You immediately add a $20 to 22 million payroll to the city. There is a multiplier – that money being spent in the community. Overall, when this is fully operational, you are looking at an impact of $150 million a year,” he said.

Hiring for the San Antonio customer information center will begin immediately – job postings are already available at at the Allstate website.
