December 16, 2009 · The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center was once one of the most highly-regarded Latino Arts organizations in the country, but during recent past years, there’s been turmoil within the organization.
In March of this year Patty Ortiz, accepted the position as Executive Director of the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in an effort to turn things around.
A native of San Antonio, she says as soon as she graduated from UTSA she moved to Denver. She spent years being an artist and teacher until one year she was asked to lead the Museo de Las Americas.
Ortiz says that position allowed her to work in two areas which are her passion; curating exhibitions and working with artists within her culture. Taking the Executive Director’s position at the Guadalupe, she says fulfills another passion. Ortiz speaks with Texas Public Radio's Ernie Villarreal.
