October 6, 2009 · While many people hear about the contributions of the Anglo settlers in Texas, not as many hear about the area’s other settlers who came to Texas when the area was still controlled by Spain.
These were the people who created the first roads, towns, ranches and laws, and they are called "Tejanos." Today Tejanos are the descendants of the first Spanish, Mexican and indigenous families on the Texas frontier.
Texas Tejano sets to raise awareness about Tejano pioneers’ contributions in Texas’ history. The organization is founded by a Tejano descendant Rudi Rodriguez. Rudi joined TPR's David Martin Davies in the Texas Public Radio studios.
