| April 29, 2009 · The number of swine flu cases in the U.S. may be underreported. Some clinics don't have swine flu test kits on hand.
Dr. John Paul Schwartz directs a health clinic in the West Texas town of Sanderson, near the Mexican border. He says the number of swine flu cases may be underreported because some clinics are having trouble getting swine flu test kits from the state.
"They have a suspected case in Alpine which is about an hour and a half from here and they're having to bring a kit from El Paso to confirm that case," says Schwartz. He says the clinic is taking matters into their own hands.
Schwartz says, "this needs to be handled immediately and we're quite frustrated that we can't get the supplies we need to deal with this. We're attempting to buy, at our own expense, to get these kits that should be supplied by the state."
He said it's been difficult to get information about the swine flu out to people in that part of West Texas because most people there don't have Internet. |
