Casbeers at the Church on Halloween

October 31, 2008 · Marcie Larson owned and operated the Church Theatre with her husband Bill for nearly thirty years.  For all that time they were not alone, two ghosts were with them. "It's haunted it's certified haunted we have certificates and magazine articles and there's the paranormal societies and people have come and certified that we are haunted."

Paranormal psychics and ghost-hunters have flocked to the Church to prove the ghosts exist.  They even pick up a few tricks to show folks there's something there.  These dousing rods are where you hold them in your hands and i didn't believe until I tried it and you because you don't squeeze or anything just hold it and when there's a ghost or whatever it is they'll start spinning."

Haunted by two ghosts who have been identified by numerous psychics as Miss Margaret a former theatre actress and resident of King William and Little Eddie a twelve-year-old boy.  Marcie says the two definitely make their presence known, especially Eddie, who had an affinity for the cook's kitchen.  "He would turn the power on an off in her kitchen and the gas on and off to her oven and the water to the building while she was trying to cook he did a whole lot of stuff trying to mess with her head."

The location is now the home of Casbeers a San Antonio favorite for roots music and home cooking.  The ghosts have come to accept the change, but it didn't start out so easy according to co-owner of Casbeers, Barbara Wolf.   "On opening day our ac went out our vented hood in the kitchen went out basically everything that could go went wrong and we had just checked all these things out and they said oh it must be Eddie he plays a prank."  Since then, the ghost have quieted down, says Barbara, but they're still around.

"All of us in our own specific ways so far have had events happens so that we're actually all believers."  You can see if you believe for yourself tonight at Casbeers.  Marcie will be regaling guests with stories of the spectres and even a few photos.  She says you can bring your own camera to try and get a shot for yourself.  "Regular old fashioned 35mm camera it doesn't work but on a digital camera these appear and they're called orbs and lots of people have taken pictures of orbs and these are not just spots on film because there's no film."

Tonight's officially haunted Halloween Party includes a performance from Casbeer's regular Miss Neesie and the Ear Food Orchestra.
