July 29, 2008 · "It's a really intelligent script. It's not what you'd expect from a zombie film," says Dan Eggleston, producer of A Zombie Musical, which he says has developed a significant following.
"It's really a puzzle, because it's such a popular genre, and I have no clue what it is about zombies that has become so popular."
But these aren't your ordinary zombies; they sing, dance and even display human emotion. The independent feature film is the first of it's kind and hopes to attract some attention for being more than a bloody gore-fest. With fourteen original song numbers in the film, the movie is definitely going for originality. Eggleston say he hopes the audience approves, as they did at recent screenings in Austin.
"The first screening we had at the Dobie, which was for cast and crew. We actually had applause three times after songs and applause at the end. And the screening we had last month at The Arbor, the audience just loved it. It's a great product it's just trying to find the audience."
The film was screened at the Alamo Drafthouse on Tuesday, July 29.
