June 10, 2008 · A less than average rainfall the past eight months and more water being pumped out from the aquifer are reasons Edwards Aquifer Authority officials are saying we may be facing Stage One water restrictions sooner than expected. Edwards Aquifer spokesman Roland Ruiz says everyone is encouraged to do what they can to conserve water now because.
"Our projections now show that we might hit Stage One of our critical period management plan, which is our drought management plan by June 17.”
Stage One restrictions go into effect when the aquifer reaches 650 feet above mean sea level. The aquifer level on Monday was at 664.4 feet, which is 14.3 feet less than at this time last year. July 2006 was the last time Stage One restrictions were enforced by the Edwards Aquifer Authority.
