Considering Art: A Conversation with Susan Stamberg and Vincent Valdez

TPR and the McNay Present ‘Considering Art’ With
NPR’s Susan Stamberg And Artist Vincent Valdez on June 1

The McNay Art Museum and TPR host a conversation with National Public Radio’s Susan Stamberg and artist Vincent Valdez at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, June 1, 2018. Tickets for Considering Art: A Conversation with Susan Stamberg & Vincent Valdez are $30 for McNay and TPR members and $40 for non-members.  Ticket includes a cocktail reception after the program.

The first woman to host a national nightly news program, NPR’s Susan Stamberg has conducted thousands of interviews with world leaders, writers and world-renowned artists. For this conversation, Stamberg turns her attention to Vincent Valdez and his paintings including The Strangest Fruit 9. Within three months of becoming the Museum’s third director (and its first Hispanic director), the McNay’s Richard Aste selected this large-scale piece as his first acquisition, a bold choice that has helped reframe and reenergize the Museum’s position as a relevant community center in San Antonio. Aste will introduce the conversation between Stamberg and Valdez, who will discuss the latter's evolution as an artist and his recent work that confronts violence, racism, and identity in America.
