The San Antonio Symphony’s 2011-2012 season features a two-month Beethoven Festival in January and February 2012. Following the success of the Tchaikovsky Festival in April/May 2011, Music Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing has announced future festivals in upcoming seasons.

Sponsored by KCI, the Beethoven Festival will feature all nine Beethoven Symphonies, plus performances from 10 different artist partners. Highlights will include Beethoven’s complete piano sonatas (32 sonatas performed over 8 concerts), the complete chamber music for cello and piano (including 5 sonatas) and much more.

The Symphony will also collaborate with KLRN to produce a television show of a live performance of the final movements of Beethoven symphonies 1, 3, 5 and 7. This KLRN show will air on Beethoven’s birthday–December 16 at 9 p.m.

You can receive free tickets to the Symphony's Beethoven Festival by participating in Symphony's "Locate Ludwig Scavenger Hunt."

Beginning September 12, for four weeks, KPAC and the Symphony will be sending out clues on-air and online directing you to area business where you can find a six-foot tall stand-up of Beethoven. Simply take your photo with Ludwig van and email your picture to tickets@sasymphony.org to receive a voucher good for two (2) free tickets to a Symphony performance.

You can listen for clues on KPAC 88.3 FM, San Antonio's Classical Oasis, or find them on Twitter, Facebook and on the KPAC blog and Symphony website.

No purchase is necessary, and limit one photo submission per person per location.

About Sebastian Lang-Lessing

Sebastian Lang-Lessing was appointed Music Director of the San Antonio Symphony in February 2010. Hailed by both audiences and critics, Lang-Lessing is among the most talented and exciting artists of his generation. His dynamic performances have garnered praise from the international press: “[The] performance’s sophistication and sensuality comes from the pit” (Los Angeles Times); “The evening’s musical interpretation under the baton of conductor Sebastian Lang-Lessing won generous applause.” (Berliner Zeitung); “The orchestra sparkles and glows under the heated conducting of Sebastian Lang-Lessing. Viva Carmen!” (Houston Press); “The orchestra excelled, finding what sounded like an extra dose of inspiration in conductor Sebastian Lang-Lessing, who relished every prismatic detail in Verdi’s score as he applied equal amounts of momentum and sensitivity to the performance.” (Baltimore Sun)

Lang-Lessing began his tenure in the 2010-11 season; he is the orchestra’s eighth director in its 71-year history. He also serves as chief conductor and artistic director of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, a post that he has held since 2004 and will relinquish at the end of 2011.
