Umbrellas, rain boots and plastic bag ponchos were the attire of the day as 600 attendees braved the inclement weather to be a part of AccessAbility Fest 2009. Texas Public Radio celebrated National Disability Awareness Month with over 100 organizations eager to serve persons with disabilities.
The third annual AccessAbility Fest took place at the Institute of Texan Cultures on Sunday, October 11, 2009. The event was designed to offer information, resources, ideas and support for people with all types of disabilities including physical, mental, sensory and developmental disabilities. The festival was free and open to the public.
Attendees enjoyed live entertainment by performing arts groups featuring people with disabilities and a kid-friendly “Fun Zone” while gathering resources and information on non-profit organizations and other businesses that provide programs and services for children and adults with disabilities.
AccessAbility Fest was made possible by the Valero Energy Foundation and Aetna. The AccessAbility Fest “Fun Zone” was funded by the Gordon Hartman Family Foundation.
