March is Women's History Month. Texas Public Radio is commemorating women in history with our" Women's History Moments," airing four times daily on KSTX 89.1 FM. Local women, including mothers, daughters and working professionals are identifying their role models and sharing their thoughts on the women in history who have inspired them.

March 31, 2008 · Rashin Mazaheri is the owner of Shiraz Restaurant in San Antonio. The woman she has been inspired by is her grandmother Shazdeh Kalantar. At a time when Iranian women weren't involved in business, Kalantar was the first woman in her province to walk into a bank to secure a loan.
March 28, 2008 ·Renata Serafin is Director of Community and Public Relations at Northwest Vista College. Renata Serafin has been inspired by Elizabeth Cochran, a journalist who wrote using the pen name Nellie Bly.
March 27, 2008 · Kathy Clay Little is publisher of theAfrican-American Reflections newspaper. She holds San Antonian entrepreneur and pastor Jessie Mae Hicks in high regard for encouraging black women to become business owners.
March 26, 2008 ·Ankita Rakhe is the Diversity and Student Programs Director at Trinity University. An avid reader, she chose author Judy Blume as the woman in history she most admired.
March 25, 2008 ·A special agent with the FBI, Mirella Nava chose Gloria Steinem, feminist and a journalist and founder of Ms. Magazine as the woman who inspired her.
March 24, 2008 · Rosemary Catacalos is the Executive and Artistic Director of Gemini Ink Literary Arts and Ideas. Hypatia was a mathematician and philosopher who lived from about 370 A.D. until approximately 415 A.D.
March 21, 2008 · Catarina Velasquez is the owner of Ruta Maya Coffe and Ale House. Coming from a family deeply involved in politics, its not surprising Velasquez chose Emma Tenayuca as the woman by whom she’s been inspired.
March 20, 2008 ·Jennifer Martinez is the Mind Science Foundation’s director of operations. Human rights activist, Guatemalan Rigoberta Menchu is the woman who has inspired Martinez.
March 19, 2008 ·Andria Macias-Castillo is Executive Director of Adelante U.S. Education Leadership Fund. She has been inspired by Ann Richards, former Texas governor.
March 18, 2008 · Carol Schliesinger is Public Relations Director at the Southwest Mental Health Center. Poet Alfonsina Storni is the woman Schliesinger chose, having found inspiration in Storni’s writings.
March 17, 2008 · Dr. Loston is President of St. Philip’s College in San Antonio. The woman she’s chosen is Artemisia Bowden who was a long time leader in the development of St. Philip’s College.
March 14, 2008 · Winter Prosapio is a writer who has chosen Marie Curie the woman in history she most admires. She chose Curie because of her insatiable curiosity and fighting the barriers facing women in the late 1800s.
March 13, 2008 · Gloria Ramirez is a retired teacher. Gloria chose Gloria Evangelina Anzaldúa, Tejana/Chicana scholar, philosopher, feminista writer who revolutionized feminist/activist thought by claiming all of her identities and writing openly about them.
March 12, 2008 · Marissa Gabrysch is Director of Student Voices for MATT.org (Mexicans and Americans Talking Together). Marissa’s inspiration is Edna Gladney, a Texan who was a champion for adoption.
March 11, 2008 ·Linsey Whitehead is Public Information Officer for San Antonio’s Office of Cultural Affairs. Eleanor Roosevelt is the woman in history she chose because of her social advocacy and never backing down as she faced adversity.
March 10, 2008 · Teresa Niño is National Trauma Institute Communications Director. She chose a Mexican woman who fought alongside men during the Mexican Revolution and lost her life doing so.
March 7, 2008 · A librarian with the San Antonio Public Library, Beth chose photographer Dorothea Lange, whose photos were able to help the lives of some of her subjects.
March 6, 2008 · Meena Thiruvengadam is a reporter for the San Antonio Express-News and a columnist for 210SA. She chose the Afghani women's rights pioneer who shares her name.
March 5, 2008 · Diane Cibrian is San Antonio City Council District 8 Representative; a member of the first female majority city council in the history of San Antonio. She chose preservation champion Adina De Zavala.
March 4, 2008 · Henna LeVasseur is a student at the University of Texas at San Antonio, majoring in Psychology. She has chosen U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for her Women’s History Month moment.
